The Political, Press and Public Affairs Section of the Embassy is responsible for building and maintaining contacts with the Swiss and Liechtenstein authorities over issues of mutual interest. The section also follows political, economic, social and other developments in Switzerland and Liechtenstein and reports these back to London. We also offer a wide range of information services to the general public, schools, universities, government departments and the media.

The Embassy has a small Political, Press and Public Affairs Section. On the political side we are mainly responsible for:

  • Building up and maintaining contacts with the Swiss and Liechtenstein authorities;
  • Monitoring political, economic, social and other developments in Switzerland and Liechtenstein and providing reports on these for colleagues in our parent government department, The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), in London;
  • Lobbying officials, policy makers and opinion formers in Switzerland and Liechtenstein in support of UK policies and objectives;
  • Collecting information and views at the request of colleagues in the UK’s various government departments in London.

On the press and public affairs side we:

  • Build up contacts with and facilitate information exchange between Swiss, Liechtenstein and UK officials/experts in a number of different subject areas of strategic importance to the UK and often through sponsorship and/or organisation of events locally;
  • Organise visits to Switzerland and Liechtenstein by UK ministers, members of the royal family and government officials eg to the World Economic Forum at Davos;
  • Offer a wide range of information services to the general public, schools, universities, government departments and the media. These services include answering questions about the UK and publicising and explaining UK policy to the Swiss and Liechtenstein media and other opinion formers. We also welcome visits to the Embassy by local school children in which we explain the work that we do and challenge the children’s knowledge about the UK through games and quizzes.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) in London also offers a range of information services. For example, the texts of FCO press releases, ministers' speeches and statements are all available on the FCO Website where you can also subscribe to the FCO’s news feed to receive our latest news as it is published.

If you wish to contact the Political, Press and Public Affairs Section, please email us at info@britishembassy.ch or go to our contact page for address and telephone numbers.
