Disabled Access

Disabled Access to UK Government offices

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the UK Government Offices are keen to ensure that their buildings and services are fully accessible to disabled members of the public. Wherever possible, we have made our buildings and services accessible.  Sometimes, however, this is not possible due to security or other restrictions. In these situations we will endeavour to provide a service or access to the building in an alternative way to ensure equality of access for disabled people. To assist disabled visitors, we have set out below details of disabled access to our Embassy in Berne.
Click on this link for information about disabled access to our Consulate General in Geneva.
We hope this information is helpful.

DISABLED ACCESS IN BERNE

 General Physical Access

  • Ramp leading up to main entrance doors.
  • Wide double glass doors providing entrance to the building.
  • Spacious, well-lit entrance lobby with smooth, tiled flooring, free from carpet and any steps.
  • The Embassy building has four floors, all of which can be reached by a lift in the entrance lobby. The width of the lift doors is 80cms. The buttons to summon the lift are at 110-120cms and the buttons within the lift are at 97-130cms. Interior dimensions would not permit rotation of a wheelchair within the lift. Arrangements can be made for meetings in the ground floor conference room or in the seating area in the lobby.
  • There is no parking area designated for disabled drivers only, however the Embassy has ample parking. Access is restricted and prior notification must be given if parking is required.
  • There are toilets within the building, which could accommodate wheelchair users.

Access for Visually-Impaired and Deaf/hard of Hearing Visitors

  •  Security guards at the front entrance can guide and assist visitors.
